Changeworker of the Week #9: Riya Singh. From Voice to Action: Climate Change with Equity at the Center

changeworker of the week Sep 24, 2025
Headshot of changeworker Riya Singh

Riya Singh, Environmental Change Researcher from India, believes that equity is not an afterthought in climate work, it must be the starting point.

Her work centers around changing the way we think, perceive, and act: especially when it comes to communities and ecosystems that are too often overlooked. For Riya, every small act of care or advocacy holds ripple potential, from one to millions and it’s this belief that keeps her grounded in the possibility of change.

Through the #MyPieceForChange campaign, we invite people to share their unique contributions to collective transformation. This series exists to honor their stories, amplify their voices, and connect them with a wider community of like-minded peers. Today, we’re honored to introduce our Changeworker of the Week: Riya Singh whom we had the pleasure of interviewing for this special spotlight.

What’s your piece for change?

My purpose is to drive equitable change in how we think, perceive, and act.

What inspired you to begin this work or stay committed to it?

I was inspired by Gandhi’s words, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’ I’ve seen firsthand how climate change, social norms, and policies often overlook the most vulnerable ecosystems and communities. I stay committed because I believe change is possible when voices are heard and dignity is protected.

What’s one hope or vision you hold for the future?

My hope is that every small act is seen for the power it holds. I believe one person’s step can ripple outward—from one to millions—creating the change our world needs.

What support or connection are you currently looking for?

The connection I’m looking for right now is to be a part of a community of change makers and like minded people who believe in creating a positive impact in the society.

What’s one thing about your field or topic you wish more people knew, considered, or acted on?

I wish more people understood that climate change isn’t a distant threat—it’s here, it’s real, and it’s already shaping the lives of the most vulnerable among us.

Where can people learn more about your work or connect with you?

The Parayma community is rooted in authentic, supportive relationships.

If Riya’s story resonates with you, reach out, share reflections, or co-create new possibilities together.

Thank you, Riya, for sharing your #PieceForChange and for reminding us that dignity, voice, and small acts are the roots of all sustainable change.

Stay tuned for next week’s Changeworker feature, and if you’d like to be highlighted, join the campaign and tick the box to express your interest.
